Why Your Chipping Stance Doesn't Matter
As TG Elite Teaching Professional Adrian Fryer demonstrates in this tip, you’re able to chip to a decent standard with many different stances: open, closed or even on one leg! What matters is that the clubhead travels on a neutral arc during your swing.
Key Things To Remember From This Video
Square Or Open
Players get confused whether their stance should be open, square or closed when chipping.
Neutral Mini Arc
The most important factor is the club needs to be briefly travelling on a mini neutral arc with the club face looking to the target. The ball doesn’t really know how your feet are aligned.
Open For Clear Passage
The commonly used open stance is purely to encourage the hips to clear providing a free passage of the arms and club through impact with the correct pivot. This stops the body creating a road block to the arms avoiding flicks and chicken wing impacts.
