Along with Ex Belfry Professionals Simon Wordsworth, Mark Pearson and Jason Froggat, Adrian recently completed a whirlwind trip to India providing tuition clinics and coaching tips to members of the Karnataka Golf Association Club, Bangalore.
In association with Wordsworth’s The Aspiration Group corporate entertainment company and on behalf of leading world-class travel company Kuoini the team provided tuition at events in Delhi, Mumbai and Bangalore.
Overseeing the Bangalore event Adrian commented ‘ With no predetermined ideas of what to expect I was taken by the place, the culture, the people and their commitment to everything including their golf. The Indian temperament seems ideally suited to golf with players being, strong, patient, dedicated, respectful and not work shy. Golf is developing very quickly with some very good players throughout the nation but not enough strength in depth as yet. The European and British PGA’s efforts to introduce an up date coaching infrastructure is gradually making an impact but for most members of golf clubs my impression was that education is the number one priority for their family members followed by cricket, cricket and cricket!!
The influence of Western and US businesses, IT, the internet and TV is making golf more popular and I am certainly looking forward to revisiting the country to meet up with the many friends I made and hopefully develop some coaching initiatives for all ages and skill levels’
When attending the recent BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth, Indian tour star and recent winner Jeev Milkha Singh was kind enough to let me study him practising and in conversation he agreed how much talent and potential the young Indian players’ possess. Despite the booming economy and growth of Indian business around the world, like me, he was concerned at the lack of investment and sponsorship of Indian Professional golfers and events but is hopeful this will begin to change, as he and several other countrymen are now a credible force on the European and U.S.P.G.A. tours.
